i think it was because of the construction work on lower wacker that was messing everything up - something that is not lost on any cabbie (or pedestrian) in the city. your message is good, though. some take their jobs seriously enough to actually plan ahead about what they are going to do in any day, they prepare for contingencies, etc. Some just wing-it. This guy was clearly the latter. next time we'll just walk!

Oh man, that is awesome. You were great to think of that. Diversion is definitely a great tool. I remember at this same first company I mentioned, I used to make up gossip to see who was spreading it. It was quite fun. Thanks for sharing your story.

You may find this funny, but my husband has been harrassed on this level. Since I've been a woman in a 'man's only' world all my life (chemist), I knew just what to do. He's not as confrontational as I am, so we copied very complicated mathmatical calculations we copied out of a Telsa book, and had him tuck them into the glass protector on his desk. That piece of paper was copied more times than we could count. When he finally got that peice of paper back, it was like limp tissue, sort of shoved into the edge of the glass. They all thought he was a genius and that gave him a new reputation. DIversion can be a very useful tool, when you're being professionally harrassed.

GIrlfriend, I can identify as a female Construction Manager. Boy do I have some stories to tell. It really boils down to the fact that on occasion men's egos just cannot accept the fact that a mere woman can do what they perceive is a "man's job". I wish we would just learn to allow each other to do what we are each good at and get out of the stereotypical way of viewing a particular job or position!!!
